Tree falls on rickshaw-van, 4 die in Dhamrai

Four people died and three others injured as a tree fell on the rickshaw-van in Dhamrai, on the outskirts of the capital, this afternoon.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Dipak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station, said the incident happened on Kaulipara-Mirzapur Road at Madartek when the roadside trees were being cut there around 1:45pm.

A tree fell on a rickshaw-van -- carrying seven people -- passing through the area, the OC said.

Four of its passengers died on spot and three were injured, the OC said adding the injured were taken to a local hospital.
