Trader hacked to death in Gazipur, two arrested

A trader, hacked by an unidentified gang at Deupara under Kaliganj upazila of the district on Saturday night, died at a hospital in Uttara, Dhaka, early yesterday.

The victim, Kamal Hossain, 37, son of Shahidur Rahman alias Lal Mia, was owner of a construction materials shop at Deupara Bazar in the upazila.

Deceased's cousin Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan said Kamal came under attack while he was returning home at Deupara village from his shop around 10:00pm.

Shamsul quoted some witnesses as saying that an unknown gang waylaid Kamal at Deupara level crossing, hacked him with sharp weapons and left the scene.

Critically injured Kamal was taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Uttara Crescent Hospital in Dhaka. He died at the hospital around 12:30am.

Police yesterday arrested two people from Deupara area, suspecting their involvement in the killing, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Azizur Rahman of Kaliganj Police Station. 

Away in Chuadanga, police recovered the body of a minor boy from Panchlia village in Alamdanga upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Enamul Haq, 3, son of Nur Islam, a union parishad member and resident of the village.
