Three women get life for murder in Meherpur

A court here yesterday sentenced three women to life imprisonment for killing a man in Sadar upazila in 2007.

The convicts are Khodeza Khatun, wife of Korban Ali of Darbeshpur village, her daughter Kajoli Khatun and their neighbour Jyoti, wife of Tengra, according to UNB.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, they are to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the prosecution, Tayeb Ali was strangulated by the three women at Darbeshpur village in the upazila on August 6, 2007 when he wanted back the money he had earlier given to Khodeza in loan.

The deceased's wife Ferdousi filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station on the day, accusing the trio.

After a long hearing, District and Sessions Judge Rabiul Hasan handed down the verdict.

Our Lalmonirhat correspondent reported that the body of a college student was found at a tobacco field at Gandhamaruya village in Aditmari upazila of the district on Sunday evening.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The victim was identified as Rahim Miah, 20, son of Anju Miah of bordering Karnapur village under Mogholhat union of Sadar upazila. He was an HSC student of Lalmonirhat Government Degree College.

Police said the college boy went out of their house on Saturday afternoon and did not return at night.

Officer-in-Charge Kafil Uddin of Aditmari Police Station said they are trying to unearth clue to the murder and arrest the culprits.
