Suspended principal asked to return Tk 66.70 lakh embezzled from college
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has asked a suspended principal of Shaheed M Mansur Ali College in Pabna to refund Tk 66.70 lakh that he had embezzled from the college fund.
Md Helal Uddin, assistant directorate of the directorate, issued a notice on December 2, asking former principal Md Abdul Mannan to deposit the embezzled amount to the college fund.
"Both local and revenue audits of the college found that former principal Md Abdul Mannan illegally deposited Tk 66 lakh 70 thousand and 198 of the college fund to his personal account, causing financial loss to the institution," Helal Uddin stated in an audit report.
On November 10 of 2013, Abdul Mannan was suspended from the post of principal on charge of embezzling huge amount of the college fund through misuse of power, said Md Saidul Haque Chunnu, president of Shahid M Monsur Ali College governing body.
And finally, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education found the allegation of his corruption true after two audits, said Chunnu, also administrator of Pabna Zila Parishad.
This correspondent tried to contact former principal Md Abdul Mannan through his cell phone but he did not receive the call.
