Strike at India’s Petrapole; import-export through Benapole suspended
Import and export between Bangladesh and India through Benapole land port has been suspended since this morning due to workers' strike at India's Petrapole.
The workers at Petrapole went on work abstention this morning to press home their five-point demand including ensuring congenial atmosphere and other facilities for workers at the port.
Shahidul Islam, revenue officer of Benapole check post customs cargo branch, said import-export between the two countries has been suspended since Monday morning due to the strike.
Thousands of cargo trucks are stuck in the port areas of the two countries due to the strike, he added.
However, activities at Benapole Customs House and port, and movement of people between the two countries were normal, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting the port sources.
