Sleeping driver ploughs truck through shops in Lalmonirhat
A driver has ploughed his truck through several shops in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha upazila.
The incident took place at Milon Bazar area on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway around 4:30am, our local correspondent reports quoting police and shop owners.
Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Omar Farooque said the driver fell asleep on the wheel and drove his truck through the roadside market.
Since it was post-Sehri hours, no one was inside those shops when the incident took place. The driver was injured and sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Three grocery shops, two shops selling electronic goods, one cosmetics and one mobile shop were damaged. Total losses incurred is estimated to be around Tk 30 lakh.
“I had commodities worth about Tk 4 lakh in my shop and all of them were destroyed,” said Jahangir Alam, a victim owner. “I don’t know how I will recoup now.”
“All the electronics goods in my shop were damaged fully and my shop was damaged,” said Krishna Chandra Roy. “Luckily my employee, who usually sleeps inside, was out in a programme.”
