SI, ASI suspended for releasing drug peddler in Joypurhat

Cops raided out of jurisdiction, detained man with 1,000 yaba pills, released him after taking Tk 2 lakh bribe

Two police officials of Panchbibi Police Station in Joypurhat were suspended this afternoon for releasing a drug peddler after taking Tk 2 lakh from him.

The sub-inspector and the assistant sub-inspector of the police station released a drug peddler after taking money from him and also conducting the raid out of jurisdiction, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting Salam Kabir, superintendent of police in Joypurhat.

Sub-Inspector Aminur Rahman and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rabiul Awal of Panchbibi police station in Joypurhat were suspended this afternoon.

Apart from the two, Muktar Hossain, a constable and radio operator of Joypurhat police, was also closed in connection with the incident.

The three police personnel caught Md Amjad Hossain, a drug peddler from Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur with 1000 pieces of yaba pills on Thursday afternoon. Hakimpur also happens to fall outside their jurisdiction. They later released the man after taking Tk 2 lakhs from him.

The Superintendent of Police (Joypurhat) Salam Kabir formed a one-member probe body led by Md Sajjad Hossain, additional superintendent of police to investigate the allegation on Thursday night.

They committed three crimes at once, the police official opined. They conducted the raid beyond their jurisdiction, without SP’s permission, detained a man with drugs from there and then released him after taking money, he added.
