Shopkeeper, college boy stabbed to death

A college student and a shopkeeper were stabbed to death in Mymensingh and Jessore districts on Tuesday.

Criminals killed Hossain Ali, 18, son of Arab Ali of Konapara village under Sadar upazila in Mymensingh district on the day, reports our correspondent.

Ali passed the HSC examinations from Government Ananda Mohan College in the district this year, said family sources.

Police and locals said one Rubel Miah, 25, a motorbike driver, of the village borrowed Tk 500 from Ali last year.

Ali pressed Rubel several times to repay the money, said Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

Around 8:30pm on Tuesday, Ali left his home for the town as he lived at a mess there.

When he reached Konapara Sluice gate area, a gang allegedly led by Rubel, and one Sujon, 27, started beating and stabbing Ali, leaving him dead on the spot.

Rubel went into hiding soon after the incident, said the OC.

In Jessore, a shopkeeper was stabbed to death at Kagajpukur village under Benapole Port Police Station of the district the same day.

The deceased is Adbus Samad, 43, son of Nasir Uddin of Dakkhin Kagajpukur village, reports our Benapole correspondent.

OC Khandakar Shamim Uddin of the police station said a gang riding motorbikes stormed into the shop of Samad at night and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
