Schoolteacher, Jubo Dal leader murdered

A schoolteacher was killed and his wife seriously injured in an attack by criminals in Pashchim Keyangghat area under Mahalchhari upazila of the district early yesterday.

The deceased is Milon Bikash Chakma, 55, a resident of the area. He was an assistant teacher of Nimna Kangalchhari Government Primary School in Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati district.

Injured Birlata Chakma, wife of Milon, was admitted to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital, said police.

A gang stormed into the house of Milon at around 1:00am and hacked the duo when they were asleep. The schoolteacher died on the spot.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy, said Somoyan Kabir, officer-in-charge of Mahalchhari Police Station.

They are trying to unearth the clue behind the murder, said the OC.

Away in Noakhali, a local Jubo Dal leader was found murdered at Tin Rastar More near Deleyai Bazar in Chatkhil upazila yesterday morning, reports our correspondent.

Son of Md Mokbul Hossain of Kanshipur village under Bashikpur union in Laxmipur district, deceased Md Israfil, 28, was the president of ward No 9 unit of Jubo Dal under the union.

He was also the joint convener of the party's union unit, said advocate Harun Bepari, organising secretary of Laxmipur district unit of BNP.

Locals found the body in the area and informed police, said Md Abul Khair, officer-in-charge of Chatkhil Police Station.

The body bore several marks of injuries caused by sharp weapons, said the OC.
