Robber hurt in gunfight with cops

A robber was injured during a gunfight between a gang of robbers and police on Joypurhat-Bogra highway in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat district on Tuesday night, police said.

Police arrested the bullet-hit robber from a bamboo cluster beside the road at Adivasipara in the upazila. The arrestee is Md Sabu Rahman, 38, son of Matbar Ali of Rajosh village under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district.

Police said a gang of around 10 robbers intercepted three microbuses and three motorcycles on the road in the area at around 10:30pm and looted money and other valuables from the passengers.

Being informed, a police patrol team went to the spot. Sensing the presence of the policemen, robbers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate. Sabu sustained bullets wounds while other members of the gang managed to flee.
