Prime accused Sen Sumon placed on one-day remand

Sen Sumon, prime accused of Magura violence that saw killing of a man and shooting of a pregnant woman, has been granted one day's remand while two other accused Sagar Hossain and Bappi Hossain have been sent to jail.

On July 23, two groups of Jubo League men locked in a clash when Momin Bhuiyan got bullet hit and died while eight-month-pregnant Nazma Begum received a bullet that also pierced through her unborn baby.

Miraculously, both the mother and her baby girl survived after a two-hour caesarean on the 35-year-old woman at Magura General Hospital.

Killed Momin's son Rafikul Hossain filed a murder case on July 26 accusing 16 people with Magura Police Station.

"Following our prayer for ten-day remand for the prime accused, district Chhatra League vice-president Sen Sumon, Magura Senior Judicial Magistrate-1 Farha Mamun granted one-day remand to be held on next Sunday," said investigation office Imaul Haq, officer in charge of Detective Branch in Magura.

Rapid Action Battalion-4 arrested Sen Sumon from Kalyanpur in Dhaka on Sunday while Detective Branch of police arrested Sagar Hossain and Bappi Hossain from Signboard area in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

On Sunday night Magura DB police arrested Nazrul Islam from WAPDA area of Magura and sent him to Jail.

Md Sumon Hossain and Abdus Sobhan were arrested on July 26 night from Faridpur and later granted one-day remand.

Six of the 16 accused have been arrested so far.

Nazma Begum and her baby are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
