Prime accused Miraj confesses to killing Rabiul in Barguna
Miraj, prime accused in Rabiul Awal murder case, yesterday confessed to killing the 10-year-old boy in Barguna district.
He gave confessional statement before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Boijonto Biswas around 10:30, said police.
According to his confessional statement, Miraj, 25, of Amkhola village in Taltali upazila, beat up Rabiul with a stick of date tree, leaving him dead on the spot, said Superintendent of Police Bijoy Bashak.
The case will be sent to speedy trial tribunal because of the sensitive nature of the case, said the SP.
Over 100 villagers brought out a procession at Chhoto Amkhola Bazar in the upazila, demanding exemplary punishment of the killer.
"Neighbour Miraj used to catch fish in Lutrar Canal in the area. A few days ago, fishes were stolen from the canal. Miraj suspected Rabiul of stealing the fishes and threatened to kill him if he was found," said the victim's father Dulal Mridha.
Rabiul, student of Class IV of Farazibari Dakhil Madrasa, went out of house on Tuesday evening and did not return home since then, he said, adding that locals found the body floating in the canal around 7:00am on Wednesday and informed the police.
Following a case filed by Dulal, police later arrested Miraj at his house, said Babul Akhter, officer-in-charge of Taltali Police Station.
