PBI to conduct forensic test of ex-Sonagazi OC’s mobile phone

A tribunal in Dhaka today allowed Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to conduct a forensic test of two mobiles of Moazzem Hossain, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Model Police Station, in connection with a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

The PBI seized two mobile phones of Moazzem Hossain on April 23 after Supreme Court Lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed the case with the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on April 15.

Meantime, Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain directed the PBI to submit the probe report of the case by May 27, after Rima Sultana, senior assistant superintendent of police of PBI submitted a petition seeking extension for 30 workdays.

The case was filed against the then OC for recording a video of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was killed setting of fire to her, without her consent and spreading the footage on social media.

In his complaint, Suman said the then OC took the principal and two madras students, including Nusrat, to his office and cross-examined Nusrat on different points on March 27.

The police official captured video record of the questioning without Nusrat’s consent and later posted it on social media which was illegal.

Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Sonagazi upazila of Feni, was set ablaze on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case filed against the madrasa principal Siraj Ud Doula for sexually harassing her last month.

After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.
