Mobile court comes under attack in Chattogram

A mobile court of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) came under attack while it was carrying out a drive in a bid to remove shops and markets on the footpaths in Banglabazar area of the port city today.

Two people including a policeman were injured and a vehicle of the mobile court was vandalised in the attack, out Chattogram correspondent reports quoting police.

Later, police detained five people from the spot for their alleged involvement in the attack, Inspector (Investigation) Priton Sarkar of Bayezid Bostami Police Station said.

Mojibur Rahman, assistant sub-inspector who sustained injuries in the attack, was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Shilbrata Barua, assistant sub-inspector of the CMCH police outpost.

CCC’s Executive Magistrate Afia Akhter, who led the drive, said the mobile court went to the Banglabazar area of Bayezid around 3:00 pm to free the footpaths from the illegal occupation of the hawkers for ensuring smooth movement of the pedestrian.

A group of people including hawkers swopped on the mobile court when the magistrate started the eviction drive, leaving a police person and a pedestrian injured, Inspector Priton Sarkar said.

On information, police rushed the spot and detained five people for their alleged link with the incident, the police officer said.

After being attacked, Magistrate Afia told the media, that a group of people under the shelter of a local political leader swopped on her and vandalised her vehicle.

However, she did not disclose the name of the leader local leader.

Inspector Priton said police have already started conducting drive to nab the other attackers.
