Man gets life for killing father
A court here yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his father in Jaldhaka upazila of the district on January 23, 2012.
The deceased is Azgar Ali, 58.
According to the prosecution, Azgar had expressed his desire to get married for a second time some days after the death of his wife.
At this, his two sons, Mosfiqur Rahman, 27, and Golam Mostofa, 24, became furious and made frantic efforts to persuade Azgar to change his decision, but failed.
Azgar was found strangled on the night of January 23, 2012.
Afsar Ali, elder brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Jaldhaka Police Station the following day, accusing the two brothers.
Police arrested the two brothers and produced them before the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court, where younger brother Golam Mostofa confessed to killing his father.
After that, police submitted the charge sheet to the court, excluding the name of elder brother Mosfiqur Rahman on the basis of the confessional statement of Golam Mostofa.
Advocate Azizul Islam, lawyer for the state, said the court examined the witnesses and evidence and also verified the confessional statement of the lone accused, and found Mostofa guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Md Mahbubul Alam, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Nilphamari, pronounced the verdict and fined him Tk 10 thousand. In default, he is to serve six months more in prison.
