Man gets life for fratricide

A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his younger brother in 2011.

The convict, Mujibur Rahman, 42, son of Aftab Uddin, a resident of Natmorichai village in Shibganj upazila, was tried in absentia.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Hafizur Rahman also fined the convict Tk 10,000. In default, he is to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the prosecution, Mujibur stabbed his younger brother Matiar Rahman, 40, with a sharp weapon, leaving him seriously injured during an altercation over a family feud around 7:30am on October 24, 2011.

Matiar succumbed to his injuries on way to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Deceased's wife Shahar Banu filed a murder case with Shibganj Police Station, accusing Mujibur the following day.

After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet against Mujibur the same year.

The court passed the order after examining the records and witnesses on Wednesday afternoon.
