Man to die for killing schoolboy

A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing a schoolboy in Gangachhara upazila of the district in 2013.

The death penalty awardee is Md Bonde Ali, 60, of Kuribisha-Banshbari village in the upazila.

According to the prosecution, Bonde Ali was a farm worker at Balaram Chandra Roy's house at the village and fired in December 2013 on theft charge.

To take revenge on his employer, Bonde Ali called Balaram's son Raton Chandra Roy, 14, a Class IX student of Barobil High School in the upazila, out of their house on the night of December 22 the same year and hacked him to death.

Locals found the body on a paddy field at the adjacent Khoksar Taly village under the upazila the following day and informed the police and victim's family.

Following a case filed by Balaram Chandra on December 23, police arrested Bonbe Ali from the village the following day. Later, he gave confessional statement before the court under Section 164.

After trial of the case for around one and a half years, Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court pronounced the verdict.
