Man beaten dead while fleeing after killing another in Cumilla

A man was beaten dead by an angry mob when he was fleeing after killing an elderly man in Cumilla Sadar upazila yesterday.

Alam, 30, attacked Akabbar in Balutupa Chowmuhuni area when he along with a group of people were returning from mosque around 7:00pm, Md Ali Hossain, member of local union parishad was quoted as saying.

He stabbed Akabbar indiscriminately and slit his throat killing him on the spot, claimed locals.

When Alam tried to flee the scene, locals caught him and beat him up, our Cumilla correspondent reports quoting Md Salauddin Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Kotwali Model Police Station.

Police rescued Alam and admitted him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 8:45pm, the official said.

Police sent both bodies to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Both of them used to live in the same building and a few days ago Akabbar rebuked Alam for taking drugs which may prompted the incident, locals said.
