Lawmaker Nixon Chowdhury seeks anticipatory bail from HC
Independent lawmaker from Faridpur-4 constituency Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, better known as Nixon Chowdhury, today sought anticipatory bail from the High Court in a case filed on charge of violating the election code of conduct during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-election.
Nixon Chowdhury filed a petition with the HC seeking anticipatory bail in the case filed by the Election Commission, Monjurul Alam, a lawyer for Nixon, told The Daily Star.
He said the HC bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar set tomorrow for holding hearing on the bail petition.
The lawyer refused to say the grounds on which his client prayed for anticipatory bail. Senior lawyer Dr Shahdeen Malik will appear for Nixon Chowdhury.
The Election Commission filed the case with Charbhadrasan Police Station on October 15 against Nixon Chowdhury for violating the election code of conduct during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-elections.
