Land dispute kills man

An elderly man, who was critically injured in an attack allegedly by his nephew on Thursday, died at Jessore Medical College Hospital on Friday. The deceased is Hamid Mollah, 70, of Bagharpara upazila in Jessore district. Family sources said there was a longstanding conflict between Hamid and his brother Hashem Mollah over a piece of land in the area. During an arbitration meeting, Hamid was seriously injured by his nephew on Thursday night. Hamid's son Rabiul also sustained injuries when he tried to save his father. The two were sent to the hospital where Hamid died on Friday evening. Police are investigating the incident, said Syed Uddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bagharpara Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
