The head of Lalmonirhat district administration's three-member probe committee today said they too did not find any instance of Abu Yunus Md Shahidunnabi Jewel, who was beaten to death by a mob, demeaning the Holy Quran.

Earlier, a National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) probe body had on October 31 found that Jewel did not demean the Holy Quran.

The probe team, led by Additional District Magistrate Momin told this to reporters after submitting the report on the killing of Jewel to Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Jafor around noon today, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports.

The team members visited Burimari Jam-e Mosque, union parishad office and the crime scene and took testimony of locals including eyewitnesses, he said.

"We have found some significant information of the incident but cannot make them public for the sake of further investigation," he added.

The DC would inform about the probe report to the authorities concerned of the government, he added.

A three-member probe team was formed by the District Administration on October 30 for investigating the brutal killing of Jewel.

Two other members of the probe committee are Additional Superintendent of Police Raniul Islam and Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamrun Nahar.

The incident happened in Burimari bazar area near Burimari land port of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat on October 29.

5 ACCUSED ON 5-DAY REMAND 

A local court placed five accused, who were arrested on Saturday, on a five-day remand in connection with the case.  

Senior Judicial Magistrate Ferdousi Begum granted the remand prayer of Rafique Islam (20), Ashraful Alam (22), Bayejit Islam (24), Masum Ali (35) and Shafikul Islam (25).
