Star Online Report

The High Court has cancelled the bail of seven accused in a double murder case in Khulna after finding that they had earlier secured bail from the court by submitting forged documents.

The court in its order yesterday also directed the accused to surrender to the lower court concerned within 10 days of receiving its order.

The HC also asked its registrar to file a criminal case against the seven accused and others, if found involved, for committing fraud with the court while obtaining bail in the double murder case.

A virtual HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Atoar Rahman issued the order after examining the original and forged documents placed by Deputy Attorney General Saifuddin Khaled during hearing on this issue.

Nayeem Sheikh of Pohordanga village under Khulna's Terokhada upazila was killed on August 7 last year when he tried to save his father Piru Sheikh during a clash over property.

Nayeem's mother Mahfuza Begum filed a murder case with Terokhada Police Station the following day in connection with the incident.

Piru Sheikh, who was seriously injured in the clash, later died at Khulna Medical College Hospital while receiving treatment there on October 21 last year.

Seven accused in the case secured bail from the HC on February 24 this year by submitting forged first information reports (FIRs) of the case and a lower court order regarding confessional statements of the accused in the case, DAG Saifuddin Khaled said.

He said the number of accused was 17 in the original FIR, but the seven accused had submitted a forged FIR where the number of accused was shown as 44.

Besides, the lower court in a bail rejection order said that four accused had made confessional statements to the magistrate in the double murder case, but they submitted a document where there is no mention of the confessional statements, DAG Saifuddin said, adding that one MA Ahad who appeared for the seven accused was no longer available at Supreme Court premises yesterday.

The seven accused whose bails were cancelled yesterday are: Sheikh Saiful Islam, Abdur Rahman, Khalid Sheikh, Iskandar Sheikh, Jamir Sheikh, Jiarul Sheikh and Abbas Sheikh.
