JS passes bill to establish Sunamganj Science and Technology University
The parliament has passed the Sunamganj Science and Technology University Bill 2020 to set up an university in the haor area.
Education Minister Dipu Moni moved the bill in the House, which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair today.
While placing the bill, the education minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government is very much conscious of development of the haor region and that's why the government has taken an initiative to set up the university in the region.
The enrollment in technical education in the country is now 17 percent, which was only 1 percent before.
Earlier in September, the bill was placed in parliament allowing the authorities concerned to establish one more science and technology university in the country.
The proposed law was formulated following the laws of other science and technology universities.
With the approval of the draft law for Sunamganj Science and Technology University, the number of science and technology universities stands at 20. Of them, 19 are in operation.
