Girl buried alive in Cox's Bazar landslide

A teenage girl was killed in a landslide triggered by torrential downpour in Jhilanja union under Sadar upazila of the district yesterday morning.

The victim, Farzana, 14, daughter of Abu Taher of Dakkhin Muhuripara in Jhilanja union, was a Class VII student of Ilias Mian High School.

Abu Taher along with his family members including Farzana took shelter at a safe place fearing landslide following heavy rain on Monday night, said Md Mainuddin, sub-inspector (SI) of Cox's Bazar Model Police Station.

"Farzana entered the house for taking her schoolbag yesterday morning when a huge chunk of mud fell on her, burying her alive at around 6:30am.

"Informed, police and fire-fighters reached the spot and dug out the body with the help of locals.
