Four traders held with shrimp fry

Detective Branch (DB) of Police in a drive arrested four fish traders and seized 10 lakh shrimp fry from their possession in Laxmipur Sadar upazila on Tuesday night.

The identities of the arrestees could not be known.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the DB police, led by officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mamun, raided the area and arrested the four along with the fry while they were taking those to Khulna from Ramgati upazila of the district.

The government in September in 2000 imposed a ban on netting shrimp fry in the coastal areas from March to July every year.

The government also banned the use of current nets during the period.
