Four get life for killing schoolboy in Sirajganj

A Sirajganj court yesterday sentenced four people to life imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district in 2009.

The lifers are Abdus Salam, 26, son of Hazrat Pramanik, Rakibul Islam, 28, son of Ayen Sarkar, Jewel Ahmed, 30, son of Sohrab Ali, and Abdul Jabbar, 22, son of Yeasin Ali.They all are from Shumadhyamarich village in the upazila.

Judge Fazle Khoda Nazir of the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each, in default, they are to suffer six months more in jail.

The court acquitted two other accused as charges brought against them could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, the convicts stabbed Hasmat Ali, 15, a class X student of Bogra Dakhil Madrasa, to death on December 10 in 2009 following rivalry over a love affair with a girl of the village.

Aynal Haque, father of the deceased filed a murder case with Ullapara Police Station on the following day, accusing six people.

After investigation, Abdul Bari, sub-inspector of the police station, submitted the charge-sheet to the court.
