Ferry service in the Padma river on the Shimulia-Kathalbari route has remained suspended for the last three days due to lack of navigability.

Talking to reporters, Mohammad Safikul Islam, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) in Shimulia Ghat, today said ferry services have remained suspended since Thursday and operation may resume in two to three days.

Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, assistant director of BIWTA in Shimulia Ghat, said at least 20 launches with passengers on board remained stuck in the middle of the river till 5:00pm today as water levels fell.

Later, passengers of these launches managed to cross the river by speedboat and lighter engine boats.

All passenger buses and goods-laden trucks were trying to take an alternative way through Paturia-Daulatdia route, reports the correspondent.
