Star Online Report

The Detective Branch (DB) of police today claimed to have busted a factory that was manufacturing fake currency in Tangail Sadar upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of detectives raided a house at Karatia Purbopara on Tuesday night and unearthed the factory, said Sanjit Kumar Roy, superintendent of Tangail police, at a press briefing at his office this afternoon.

During the drive, the team also recovered different materials to prepare fake notes including a computer, printer and papers from inside the house.

They arrested three people -- Akash Mahmud Harez (30), Ainal Khan (35) and Raihan Miah (20) -- from the spot, the police official said.

The law enforcers also recovered fake notes of Tk 500 (amounting to Tk 2,77,500 of fake currency) from their possessions, he said.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they were producing the fake notes there for use them at sacrificial cattle markets before Eid, added the SP.

Nuruzzaman, sub-inspector of Tangail DB police, filed a case against the arrestees with Sadar Police Station last night, said Sazzad Hossain, officer-in-charge of DB (North) in Tangail.

Today, they were sent to jail by a district court, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting the OC.
