Endangered Asian Elephant dies after being electrocuted by live wire
An endangered Asian Elephant died after it came in contact with an exposed live wire and was electrocuted to death in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar early today.
The elephant died at Moricchaghona area in Hnila union, reports our staff correspondent.
Mohammad Salauddin, a resident of Hnila union told The Daily Star there had been quite a few incidents of elephant deaths in this area in the same manner before.
"The power line hangs so low that a six feet person could easily come in contact with it," he added.
Humayun Kabir, divisional forest officer of Cox's Bazar (south) said the area where the elephant died is under private ownership and they have sent a team of veterinary doctors and other officials to the spot.
