Eleven-year-old madrasa student raped by teacher in Chattogram

An eleven-year-old madrasa student was raped by her teacher multiple times in Chattogram's Banshkhali upazila.

The victim's mother filed a case with Banskhali Police Station this evening after the girl disclosed the matter to her. The accused madrasa teacher Hafez Mozammel Haque (50), managed to flee after the crime was disclosed, said police.

Quoting the case statement, Banskhali Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim Mazumder told The Daily Star, "The incident took place at Paschim Chambal union of the upazila where the victim is a student of Pachim Chambal Forkania Madrasa and she used to learn Arabic there.

"The teacher raped the girl several times in the last one month after morning classes, asking her to stay there for cleaning. The teacher also threatened the girl not to tell the matter to anyone," said the OC.

"On Monday, the mother of the victim learned of the incident. Police heard the matter through local sources and went to the madrasa but the teacher fled the spot," the OC said.

The victim was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for medical tests.
