Eight alleged abductors arrested in Mymensingh
Detectives arrested eight people, including a woman, for their alleged involvement in an abduction case.
The arrestees were identified as Faruq Hossain alias Gafur, 32, Abdul Kadir, 65, Md Faruq, 48, Md Farhad, 38, Saiful Islam, 22, Rupchan Ali, 32, Babul Miah, 40 and Tahmina Akhtar, 25.
Of the arrestees, Gafur, son of Alauddin Mollah, hails from Raninagar upazila of Naogoan district while the the rest are from Phulpur and Tarakanda upazilas of Mymensingh.
Police said the gang allegedly called Belal Hossain and Amir Hossain Rubel, two glaziers, to Tarakanda upazila headquarters from Dhaka to give them a contract for fitting glass in a multi-storied building on April 19.
When the two reached Tarakanda Bazar, the gang allegedly led by Gafur took them to an abandoned house in the bazar area and demanded Tk 1,30,000 from them. After getting the ransom, they released both the following day, police said.
Rubel's elder brother Liton Miah lodged a case with Tarakanda Police Station on April 21.
On information, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Gafur from Mymensingh town's Boro Bazar area on Tuesday night, said Emarat Hossain Gazi, officer-in-charge of DB police.
Following Gafur's confessional statement, police arrested the rest seven, raiding different areas of Phulpur and Tarakanda, and Hotapara of Gazipur district, early yesterday, said the OC.
After interrogation, the arrestees were yesterday produced before a Mymensingh court that sent them to jail.
