Display lists of farmers selected to sell paddy at offices: Food minister

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today directed that the final list of farmers, selected by lottery to sell paddy to the government, be displayed at government offices.

The minister issued the directive while interacting with officials of Khulna Division through a video conference from his residence in Dhaka's Minto Road.

Food Ministry Secretary Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum relayed the development to The Daily Star after the video conference.

The minister also said if a farmer sells his slip to any middleman, his or her card will be cancelled. At the same time, legal action will be taken against middlemen involved with irregularities, the minister said.

After the lottery, a waiting list of farmers will also be prepared, the minister added.

The minister also warned officials and employees against harassing any farmer when he or she gives rice to the food warehouses.

The ministry secretary further said the minister has already interacted with the officials of six divisions through videoconference and gave similar instructions.
