Death row convict arrested 14 years after murder of wife and child in Bagerhat
Police have arrested a death row convict who has been on the run for 14 years after killing his wife and child in Bagerhat.
The arrestee, Muhit Sheikh (48), was held from Katakhali area in Bagerhat's Fakirhat upazila this morning.
According to the case, Muhit Sheikh killed his wife Shafi Begum by beating her up and strangling her on the night of October 14, 2006.
Deceased Shafi Begum's brother Shahidul Islam filed a case. Muhith also killed his seven-year-old daughter Shirin three months later in an attempt to evade the case and blame others.
After taking the charge sheet of the investigating officer and the testimony of witnesses, the court ordered Muhit's death penalty in 2012. Muhith has been on the run since the murders.
Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Monirul Islam said Muhit Sheikh had been hiding in different areas of Khulna for a long time.
After his arrest, Muhit was handed over to the court, the police official said.
