Dacope people leaving shelter centres as weather improves

Star Online Report

People of Khulna’s Dacope upazila were returning home after spending an anxious night at the temporary cyclone centres as the cyclone Fani crossed the district this morning.

The cyclone crossed Khulna around 6:00am without causing much devastation in the upazila.

The weather seemed less severe although strong wind and grim sky persisted, our staff correspondent reports from the Pankhali area in the upazila.

The two cyclone centres set up at Pankhali Primary School and Pankhali Momotaz Begum Higher Secondary School had around 200 families each taking shelter to survive the fury of Cyclone Fani, said SM Saiful Alam Selim, headmaster of the primary school.

A few of the families consisting elderly and physically challenged people and children were still staying back in the centres, the headmaster added.
