Clash over land leaves 50 injured in Habiganj
At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of people over taking control of a land at Shahpur village under Baniarchang upazila of Habiganj district on Tuesday.
Locals said there had been a long-standing dispute between Azizur Rahman and Ataur Rahman over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.
As the villagers belonging to Aziz group went to capture the land, their rivals swooped on them, leading to a clash between the two sides.
At least 50 people from both sides were injured during the clash that continued for an hour. The injured were admitted to Baniarchang Upazila Health Complex, Habiganj Sadar Hospital and Sylhet MAG Osmany Medical College Hospital.
Being informed, police went to the spot and dispersed the clashing groups. Contacted, Officer-in-Charge Nirmalendu Chakraborty of Baniarchang Police Station said police have been deployed in the area to avert further clash.
