Cabinet approves 22 public holidays in 2021; eight fall on weekends
Eight out of 22 public holidays will fall on the weekends next year.
The number of public holidays was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today.
In 2021, there will be 14 general holidays and six of them coincided with public holidays, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
The day following Eid-ul-Fitr and Shab-e-Meraj, which are observed as holidays as per a government executive order, will fall on Saturday and Friday too, he said.
Though the Eid celebrations depend on sighting of the moon, it is assumed that next year Eid-ul-Fitr will be on May 14 (Friday) and Eid-ul-Azha on July 21 (Wednesday).
The largest festival of the Hindu community Bijoya Doshomi will be on Friday, October 15.
