Boy drowns in pond

A boy drowned in a pond at Paikan village under Mithapukur upazila of the district yesterday. The deceased was identified as Ratan Mian, 10, son of Monnaf Hossain of Marichbari village in the upazila, and an employee at a bakery shop of one Azizar Rahman at Paikan village. Quoting locals  Md Humayun Kabir, officer in charge of Mithapukur Police Station, said Ratan went to the nearby pond for taking bath around 3:00pm and at one stage, he drowned. Being informed, firefighters from Mithapukur came to the spot and recovered Ratan's body.
