BNP’s Ishraque acquitted in case filed for not submitting wealth statement to ACC

A Dhaka court today acquitted BNP's Ishraque Hossain, a candidate of the last Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election, in a case filed for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Shaikh NazmulAlam of Dhaka's Special Judge's Court-4 handed down the acquittal order in presence of Ishraque, son of former Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, at a packed courtroom.

The judge said he found no satisfactory evidence to convict Ishraque. The prosecution failed to produce vital witnesses to prove the charges. Moreover, the notice was not duly served. So, the accused was acquitted, the judge said.

Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of six prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case.

The same court on January 15 this year framed charges against the accused in the case filed by the ACC with Ramna Police Station.

On December 6, 2018, ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Hossain pressed charges against Ishraque in the case.
