Amidst 10-day shutdown, 1 killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

Against the backdrop of a 10-day shutdown that began yesterday, according to Satkhira police, two groups of criminals exchanged fire in Sadar upazila around 2:00am today.

The "gunfight" left one person dead, police said.

The dead was identified as Wahed Ali Gazi, son of Nobat Ali Gazi of Satkhira Sadar Upazila.

Sharif Enamul, a sub-inspector of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, said, the "gunfight" between two criminal groups happened around 2:00am today.

On information of the "gunfight" at Chelardangi village, a team of police led by Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman rushed there and found the dead, he said, adding that other criminals fled the scene.

The body was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

The SI claimed the deceased was accused in at least six cases including two for murders.

Police claimed to have recovered a firearm, two bullets and a knife.
