Acid attack on wife in Pirojpur, man arrested

A woman sustained burn injuries in an acid attack allegedly by her husband in Nesarabad upazila of the district early yesterday.

The victim is Kohinur Begum, 40, wife of Abdul Kuddus Sheikh of Guarekha village in the upazila. She is now undergoing treatment at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital.

Kohinur alleged that she went to her father's house at the village two months ago as Kuddus beat up her mercilessly over a trivial matter.

"Around 2:00am yesterday, Kuddus entered the house by cutting its tin-shed wall and threw acid on me when I was asleep with my two daughters," she said.

Police later arrested the victim's husband from the village.

They are investigating the incident, said Motaleb Hossain, sub-inspector of Nesarabad Police Station.
