85yr-old held in connection with rape of special-needs child in Rangamati
Police have arrested an 85-year-old man in a case filed against him for raping a 12-year-old special needs child in Rangamati's Naniarchar upazila.
The arrestee, Md Harunur Rashid (85), has been taken to court before he was shown arrested in the case, said Md Alamgir, sub-inspector and duty officer of Naniarchar Police Station.
The incident took place on Sunday morning in Islampur area under Burighaat union in the upazila. On the same day, the victim's mother filed a case against Harunur Rashid under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the police station, SI Alamgir said.
There were similar allegations made against the arrestee previously, said Tapash Ranjan Ghosh, assistant superintendent of police (Rangamati Sadar Circle).
Assistance was sought from a teacher of a school for special-needs children to get the statement of the victim but the victim was in no condition to give her statement, the ASP said.
Further legal steps will be taken after taking statements from the victim's parents and interrogation of the arrestee in connection with the case, the police official added.
