6 cops closed on bribery charge in Thakurgaon

Six policemen of Pirganj Police Station were closed to Thakurgaon police lines on Friday evening for their alleged involvement in taking bribes from several motorbike owners. 

The withdrawn policemen are sub-inspectors Nuru Alam and Md Mamun, and constables Abdul Jalil, Monoranjan, Mostafa Kamal and Md Shohag.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Farhad Ahmed ordered Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abul Kalam Azad to investigate the matter.

The policemen went to Gogar village in Ranishankoil upazila on Thursday evening and intercepted several motorbikes on Pirganj-Ranishankoil road in the name of conducting drive to seize motorbikes plying without registration.

Seeing that the policemen were releasing the bikes after taking bribes, the locals protested and confined them to a house.

On information, the OCs of Ranishankoil Police Station and Pirganj Police Station went to the spot and freed the cops through arbitration in which local public representatives were also present.

Later on Friday evening, the SP ordered to close them to the district police lines.
