4 killed after train hits private car in Jashore

Four people were killed and two others were injured after a train hit a private car in Jashore's Abhaynagar upazila this afternoon.

Identities of the deceased could not be known yet, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station.

Two men, a woman and a five-year-old child are among the deceased, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting police and doctor.

Khulna-bound train--Mahananda—which started from Chapainawabganj hit the private car at Bhanga gate rail crossing around 4:45pm, said Mohsin Reza, station master of Nawapara Railway Station.

The private car was passing the rail crossing on the Jashore-Khulna highway and there was no gateman at the crossing, he said.

The train dragged the car around 150 metres from the crossing. On information, a team of Nawapara Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and rescued the injured people.

Two people died on the spot. A five-year-old girl died on the way to Abhaynagar Health Complex, said Iffat Sharmin, a physician of emergency unit of the health complex.

Three more injured were referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) as their condition deteriorated, said Iffat Sharmin. On the way to KMCH, another person died taking the death toll four.

Rail communication on the route is now normal, added the station master.
