35 BNP-Jamaat men among 120 arrested in 4 districts

At least 120 people, including 35 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men, were held during special drives by law enforcers in Jhenidah, Chittagong, Chapainawabganj and Satkhira districts yesterday and the day before.

A joint force in separate drives arrested five activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in three upazilas of Jhenidah in the last two days, reports our correspondent.

Of them, three are from Sadar upazila and two others from Harinakundo and Kotchandpur upazilas respectively.

They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the areas, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh.

In Chittagong, police arrested at least 86 people, including three Jamaat-Shibir men, in different upazilas and the city yesterday, reports our correspondent.

Of the arrestees, two Jamaat activists from Satkania upazila and one Shibir man from Mirsarai upazila.

They were arrested in several cases, said Naimul Islam, additional superintendent of police.

According to our Chapainawabganj correspondent, the law enforcers arrested at least 29 people, including three BNP and Jamaat men, in different upazilas of the district yesterday and the day before.

Of the arrestees, two BNP men and one Jamaat activist are from Shibganj upazila. 

Away in Satkhira, a team of joint force in separate drives arrested 30 people, including 24 Jamaat-Shibir activists, from six upazilas in the district in the last two days on various charges, reports UNB.

Of them, the law enforcers arrested 24 Jamaat-Shibir activists from Tianshi area in Sadar upazila while they were holding a secret meeting there.

The law enforcers also recovered four hand bombs and a number of jihadi books from the spot.
