30 more arrested in three districts

At least 30 people including 15 BNP and Jamaat men were arrested during special drives by law enforcers in Satkhira, Munshiganj and Chandpur districts yesterday and the day before.

A joint force in separate drives arrested at least 27 people including 15 activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in different upazilas of Satkhira in the last two days, reports our correspondent.

Of the arrestees, 11 are from Sadar upazila, four from Kalaroa upazila, four from Tala upazila, one from Kaliganj, two from Ashashuni upazila, one from Debahata, two from Shyamnagar and two others from Patkelghata.

They were arrested in several cases, said Sub-Inspector Enamul Haq of the district police.

In Munshiganj, police arrested two local Jamaat leaders at Tajpur village under Sirajdikhan upazila of the district yesterday.

The arrestees are Mujibur Rahman, 45, general secretary of the upazila unit of Jamaat, and its Roshunia union unit president Md Zahangir Hossain, 30, reports our correspondent.

On secret information, a police team raided Al Hera Dhakhil Madrasa at the village in the afternoon and arrested the two.

They were held on sabotage charges, said Yeardous Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station.

The arrestees were later produced in a court that sent them to jail, said the OC.

According to our Chandpur correspondent, the law enforcers arrested a local Jamaat leader in Shahrasti upazila of the district yesterday.

The arrestee is Mawlana Mizanur Rahman, 44, ameer of Shahrasti municipality unit of Jamaat.

A police team, acting on a tip-off, raided Thakur Bazar area and arrested Mizan.

He was arrested on sabotage charge, said Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman of Shahrasti Police Station.
