4 day-labourers killed in Bogura road crash

Four day-labourers were killed and three others injured when a pickup-van ploughed through them in Bogura today.

The deceased are Rashidul Islam (50) of Khamarkandi village and Abu Zafar (45) of Gokul in Bogura Sadar upazila and Azgar Ali (45) and Montu (44) of Gaibandha district.

Quoting witnesses, Humayan Kabir, officer in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station, said like any other day, 8-10 labourers were waiting for potential work on the roadside in front of Bogura Sadar Upazila Parishad Office in Matidali around 5:00am today.

Suddenly, a pickup-van skidded off the road and hit them, injuring six of them.

Locals and their co-workers rushed them to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Rashidul, Abu Zafar and Azgar dead.

The injured are -- Montu, Moidul Islam (38) of Rangpur and Khajer Uddin (50) of Gaibandha --  were admitted to the hospital where Montu died later.

Khajer Uddin is in a critical condition, said the OC.

The driver and the helper managed to flee the scene along with the van after the incident.
