22 brick kilns fined for violating DoE conditions

Department of Environment (DoE) of Chattogram region fined 25 businesses including 22 brick kilns Tk 17.31 lakh for violating DoE conditions.

The fine was imposed on them after a hearing at DoE Khulsi office of the port city.

Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of DoE Chattogram region told The Daily Star a total of 22 brick kilns from Cumilla, Feni and Chattogram were fined Tk 14, 44,000 while a man from Chakoria upazila of Cox's Bazar was fined Tk 2,50,000 for razing hills.

Apart from this, a cement company and a diagnostic center were fined a total of Tk 37,000, he added.

DoE Chattogram metro fined Sanmar Green Park, an under-construction facility of Sanmar Group Tk 200,000 for cutting hills at Baizid's Jalalabad area.

Mia Mahmudul Haque, deputy director of DoE Chattogram Metro told The Daily Star that Sanmar Green Park razed 1,000 cubic feet of hills at Jalalabad area to make a concrete structure.
