20 injured as BCL, Jubo League men clash
Chuadanga town; 3 arrested
At least 20 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League in Chuadanga district town on Tuesday night.
At least eight houses and 15 business establishments were also vandalised during the incident.
The clash took place over previous enmity between Mohaimen Hasan Joarder Anik, general secretary of the district unit of BCL, and Obaidur Rahman Choudhury, former convener of the district unit of Jubo League, and incumbent mayor of Chuadanga municipality.
Criminals attacked the house of BCL activist Khalid Hasan loyal to Anik at Satgari village in Sadar upazila on Monday night. The attackers also blasted two bombs and vandalised his house, said Jasim Uddin, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station.
The following day, a group of BCL men allegedly led by Khalid swooped on the houses of seven Jubo League activists loyal to Obaidur Rahman Choudhury.
After the incident, both groups attacked each other, leaving 20 people from both sides injured. They also blasted around 20 bombs during the incident.
The BCL men also vandalized at least 15 different shops of general people in the area.
Police arrested three BCL activists from the spot. They are Abdur Rahman, 22, Sumon Hasan, 25, and Barkat Ali, 26, of Satgari village.
Yesterday, the arrestees were produced in a court that sent them to jail, said police.
