2 killed in Cumilla road accident

Two people were killed and five others were injured in a three-vehicle pile-up on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chandina upazila of Cumilla this morning.

Identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately, reports our Cumilla correspondent, quoting Safayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mainamati Crossing Highway Police Station.

The OC said the accident took place at Korpai around 9:15am when a microbus driver lost control of the wheels after being hit by a Chattogram-bound bus and rammed into a truck.

Driver of the microbus and a female passenger died on the spot while five other injured passengers of microbus were rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

Transport movement on a lane of the highway remained suspended for an hour following the road accident.

Fire brigade and highway police jointly conducted the rescue operation.
