2 die while cleaning out septic tank in Kurigram

Two people died after inhaling toxic fumes while working inside a septic tank in Kurigram's Phulbari this morning.

The deceased were identified as Al Amin (25) and Sujan Mia (35), Nabiul Hasan, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Phulbari Police Station told our local correspondent.

Al Amin, a construction worker, climbed down the septic tank of an under construction building owned by Abdul Awal, an assistant professor of Phulbari Degree College in Gangarhat Bazar area around 9:30am, the OC said.

Since he was not responding after going down the tank, one Sujan Mia went down the tank to rescue him but lost consciousness soon after, the OC said quoting to witnesses.

Firefighters from Nageswari Fire Service Station rushed to the spot and recovered the two from the septic tank after 30 minutes of efforts, he said.

Later, the victims were sent to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex where doctor Saiful Islam declared them dead.

Necessary legal step will be take in this regard after investigation, the OC said.
